Sicily is the world’s first multicultural society and Europe’s most “cosmopolitan” region. Asians, Africans and a variety of European people have ruled the island throughout the ages, all of whom have left their particular mark on art, architecture and cuisine.
The mediterranean’s largest island has as much to offer the passionate historian, the architect lover, the party animal and naturalist, as the beach enthusiast, adventurist, the gourmet and the hopeless romantic.
How to get here
Sicily is a safe destination, easily reached by plane from anywhere in Europe. It hosts 4 international airports (plus 3 national and 1 military), 20 seaports (and 2 container terminals) and is also reachable by train, car and bus from the mainland, via the Messina strait.
Recently, the final part of the E1 (the European long distance walking trail) has been completed and you can now walk from the North-cape in Norway all the way to the southern most point of Sicily, Capo Passero.
